Cathy Reid

MS, OT/L; SIPT – Director

Cathy is a licensed Occupational Therapist and founder of Gowanus Treehouse with over 25 years of experience. She holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Shenandoah University and is certified in Sensory Integration and Praxis (SIPT) through Western Psychological Services and the University of Southern California.

As Director, Cathy designs the social group curriculum and applies Social Thinking Methodology to support both neurotypical and neurodivergent children in building social competence, self-regulation, flexible thinking, and executive functioning skills. She emphasizes co-regulation, perseverance, and growth mindset strategies to help children of all abilities achieve lasting outcomes. Cathy also oversees OT fieldwork education and has established training partnerships with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Columbia University, and the University of Southern California with the future generation of OTs.

Cathy is passionate about expanding access to OT services and creating sensory-supportive environments. She has designed multiple sensory gyms across Brooklyn and consulted on sensory rooms in homes and schools. She has volunteered in Ghana and continues medical mission work with her staff in remote areas of the Philippines with Global Health Force physicians. Cathy also incorporates animal-assisted therapy through her rescue dog visits to the clinic and will begin offering Equine Assisted OT in Spring 2026 through a partnership with Pony Up 4 Kids in upstate New York.

Outside of work, Cathy enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, music, and staying active through tennis, surfing, and snowboarding.
